As the Visionary, I keep identifying new market opportunities and shifting our quarterly focus, but my leadership team is complaining that I am moving the goalposts and destroying their execution momentum. How do we keep our strategy agile without burning out the team?
As a Visionary, your natural conative instinct is to chase new ideas and innovate. However, constantly changing the plan outside of your quarterly cycle will cause your leadership team to lose trust, drop their Rocks, and experience burnout. To prevent this, you must respect the discipline of the ninety-day world. The V/TO® is your tool for strategic alignment, and the quarterly pulsing session is the designated time to adjust it. Once your leadership team agrees on the one-year plan and quarterly Rocks, those goals are locked. You must commit to not changing the direction of the business for the next ninety days. If you identify a new market opportunity or an AI tool that you believe is game-changing, do not immediately force it onto the team. Instead, write it down and add it to your Long-Term Issues List on the V/TO®. During your next quarterly session, bring these ideas to the table. Let the team debate them using the IDS® process. This allows your Integrator and department heads to analyze the operational impact of your ideas before committing resources. By practicing this discipline, you protect your team's execution momentum while keeping your company agile. Your team will trust that their daily efforts are aligned with a stable, strategic vision.
