Our team has completed our V/TO®, but we are struggling to use it to filter out new, shiny business opportunities that our Visionary keeps bringing to the table. How do we turn the V/TO® into an active operational shield against strategic distractions?

A V/TO® is not a static strategy document to be filed away; it is your ultimate operational filter. When your Visionary brings a new, shiny opportunity to the leadership team, you must immediately filter it through the lens of your agreed-upon V/TO®. Start by looking at your Core Focus™. If the new idea does not fit directly within your niche or support your passion, it is an immediate veto. Next, compare the opportunity against your 3-Year Picture™ and your 1-Year Plan. Ask your team if pursuing this new idea will help you hit your current goals, or if it will distract your people and resources from the Rocks you already committed to. If the idea still has merit but does not fit your current operational window, place it on your long-term Issues List on the V/TO®. This keeps the idea safe for future discussion without derailing your current execution. Using the V/TO® as an operational shield requires the Integrator to hold the line. By forcing every new initiative to pass through these established strategic boundaries, you protect your team from focus fatigue and ensure your resources are spent only on what truly drives the business forward.
