When our leadership team is deeply divided on a major strategic opportunity or potential pivot, how do we use the V/TO® as a tie-breaker instead of relying on the loudest voice in the room?
Strategic divisions are healthy, but unresolved debates turn into drag. When your team is split on a major decision, do not rely on consensus or let the loudest voice win. Instead, pull out your V/TO® and run the opportunity through your established strategic filters.
Start with your core values. Does this new opportunity align with who you are? If it requires your team to behave in ways that violate your core culture, the answer is a hard no.
Next, look at your Core Focus™. This is your sweet spot. If the opportunity falls outside your niche or does not align with your passion and unique ability, you must reject it, no matter how lucrative it looks. Too many businesses die of indigestion from swallowing too many opportunities, not starvation.
Finally, check your ten-year target and three-year picture. Will pursuing this move you closer to those milestones, or is it a shiny object that will distract your resources?
If the opportunity passes all these filters and the team is still divided, the Integrator must make the final call based on the V/TO® alignment. The V/TO® is not a historical artifact. It is a decision-making framework designed to protect your resources and keep you on the path to a clean, valuable exit. If an opportunity does not fit, kill it and move on.
