When a weekly Scorecard metric goes red for three weeks in a row, our leadership team tends to rush through a quick explanation during the Level 10 Meeting™ to save time. How can the Integrator use a strategic pause to force a deeper look without derailing the meeting flow?
When a metric stays red for multiple weeks, teams often develop blind spots and begin glossing over it with quick, repetitive excuses. To prevent this, the Integrator must implement a strategic pause during the Level 10 Meeting™ to disrupt the routine and force honest reflection. Instead of letting the owner say it is red because of a delay but we are fixing it and moving on, the Integrator should pause the meeting and ask a simple, objective question: Is this target still realistic, or are we experiencing a systemic failure? This pause forces the team to step back from the weekly rush and assess the trend. The Integrator should then direct the metric to the Issues List for immediate IDS® treatment during that same meeting. Do not allow the team to discuss the solution during the Scorecard review itself. By dropping it to the Issues List, you dedicate focused time to digging down to the root cause. This practice prevents the team from becoming numb to red numbers. It sends a clear message that a recurring red metric is not something to be tolerated or ignored, but a system failure that requires collective problem solving.
