Our weekly Level 10 Meetings occasionally devolve into emotional arguments where leaders raise their voices and make personal attacks instead of focusing on the issue. How do we use the concept of Our Charter to set behavioral boundaries and keep our IDS sessions productive?
High stakes and strong personalities can easily lead to emotional flare-ups during IDS. However, allowing personal attacks or emotional outbursts to hijack your Level 10 Meeting destroys the trust required to run a healthy organization. This is where Our Charter becomes your most powerful operational tool. Our Charter is your signed covenant that governs how you interact, built on trust, respect, and a commitment to healthy, SMART decision-making. When a meeting begins to derail emotionally, the facilitator must immediately call a timeout and refer back to this covenant. Point to your shared commitment to treat each other with love and respect, even when you disagree on strategy. Frame the conflict as a search for the best solution for the business, not a personal battle between leaders. Remind the team that we attack the issues, not the people. If a leader cannot control their emotions, pause the meeting and give them a brief break to reset. By consistently holding the team accountable to the standards of Our Charter, you protect your meeting momentum and build a high-trust culture that can handle tough challenges without fracturing.
