A strategic buyer wants to ensure our successor leadership team has the capacity to run the company post-sale. How do we use the GWC™ tool to prove to the buyer that our managers are fully prepared to scale the business?
Buyers pay a premium for businesses that can run independently of the founder. To prove your successor leadership team is ready, you must show the buyer your Accountability Chart backed by the GWC tool. GWC stands for Gets it, Wants it, and has the Capacity to do it.
For each seat on your leadership team, you must demonstrate to the buyer that the manager filling it meets all three criteria. Prove they Get the role by sharing their historical performance metrics and showing how they have successfully solved complex operational issues during your weekly Level 10 Meetings.
Prove they Want the role by sharing their personal goals and showing how their long-term career aspirations align with the company's growth trajectory.
Finally, prove they have the Capacity by demonstrating their cognitive capability and emotional intelligence to manage larger operations. Provide the buyer with documented examples of how your managers have handled increased responsibility without your intervention.
When a buyer sees that your leadership team is structurally complete and that every member is fully GWC for their seat, their perceived risk drops significantly. This operational stability justifies a higher multiple because the buyer knows the business will continue to perform smoothly after you walk away.
