How do you use our team's cognitive and behavioral profiles during a live session to prevent dominant personalities from hijacking the IDS process?
During a session day, high dominance personalities can easily overwhelm the room, while highly analytical or quiet team members might hold back their best ideas. To prevent this dynamic from derailing our IDS® process, I actively use your team's cognitive and behavioral profiles to guide our discussions.
I do not let the loudest voice win. Instead, I use my role as an outside facilitator to balance the room based on how your team is wired. For example, when we are identifying a critical issue, I will specifically call on your high compliance or highly analytical team members to share their data before we allow the high dominance profiles to push for a quick decision.
We manage the room using these guidelines:
- We encourage the high energy Visionaries to state their ideas clearly, then step back to let the analytical minds process them.
- We create space for the introverted members to speak by managing the pace of the discussion.
- We refer back to our shared operating language to depersonalize any natural friction between different styles.
This structured facilitation ensures that every decision we make is backed by data and thoroughly vetted by the entire team, leading to true alignment rather than forced agreement.
