One of our key leadership team members regularly arrives at our weekly Level 10 Meeting without updating their scorecard metrics or Rock progress in advance, forcing us to sit in silence while they search for their numbers in real time. How do we handle this lack of preparation without causing a major personal conflict?

When a leader fails to update their numbers before the meeting, they are showing a lack of respect for the team's time and the meeting pulse. Having to wait for someone to find their data during the ninety minutes kills the momentum and shortens your IDS® time.

To correct this behavior, the Integrator must address it directly during the rating section or immediately after the meeting. Do not let it slide. The expectation is that all metrics and Rocks are updated at least one hour before the meeting starts.

If a leader arrives and their numbers are not updated, the meeting must proceed anyway. The facilitator should not wait. If a metric is blank, it is considered off track or red, and the scribe should immediately add it to the Issues List.

During the IDS® portion of the meeting, solve the issue of their lack of preparation. Ask what is preventing them from updating their data on time. If it is a technology issue, resolve it. If it is a time management issue, hold them accountable to their seat on the Accountability Chart®. By making their lack of preparation an issue to be solved by the team, you shift the focus from personal conflict to operational discipline.
