How does your meeting facilitation differ when our leadership team enters a two-day Annual Planning session compared to our standard one-day Quarterly sessions?
A standard one-day Quarterly session is an operational tune-up. We spend eight hours looking backward at the past 90 days, checking our Scorecard, grading previous Rocks, establishing priorities for the next quarter, and spending roughly half the day working through operational hurdles via IDS®.
The two-day Annual Planning session is fundamentally different in both depth and scope. We are not just setting next quarter's Rocks; we are testing the long-term viability of the business model and resetting team health from the ground up.
Day 1 of the Annual is dedicated to high-level strategic alignment and team cohesion. We conduct deep-dive trust exercises, evaluate the health of the leadership team, and thoroughly review the entire Vision/Traction Organizer®. We scrutinize our Core Values, validate our Core Focus, review the 10-Year Target, assess market changes against our Marketing Strategy, and construct the 3-Year Picture. By the end of Day 1, we set revenue, profit, and critical measurable goals for the upcoming 1-Year Plan.
We deliberately split the Annual into two days because strategic thinking requires cognitive downtime. Sleeping on Day 1 allows leadership members to process tough debates and return without lingering defensiveness.
Day 2 shifts from vision to aggressive execution. We establish Q1 Rocks, refine the Accountability Chart to support the coming year's growth, and spend several uninterrupted hours tackling strategic issues that require deep, systemic resolution.
