Why does our Annual Planning require two consecutive full days instead of our usual single-day quarterly format, and what distinct work happens on day two?
A single quarterly session focuses on executing a ninety-day sprint. Annual Planning requires two consecutive full days because your team must step out of execution mode, evaluate the health of the entire organization, and reset the strategic foundation for the next calendar year.
Day one begins with an extensive team health evaluation. We review your organizational health, address interpersonal dynamics, and resolve lingering team friction. From there, we evaluate the previous year against your original financial and operational commitments. In the afternoon of day one, we challenge your V/TO® from the ground up. We review your Core Values, Core Focus, and 10-Year Target, and we conduct a rigorous SWOT analysis to capture every strategic threat and opportunity facing your industry.
Day two is purely operational and forward-looking. We open by setting your 3-Year Picture, defining exactly what your business will look like in revenue, profit, and measurable operational milestones thirty-six months from today. Next, we build your 1-Year Plan, setting the top three to five company goals and financial targets for the upcoming twelve months.
Once the annual targets are set, we establish your first-quarter Rocks, align the Accountability Chart to support the growth plan, and spend three hours resolving critical issues using IDS®. Compressing that workload into a single day forces compromises that leave leadership teams misaligned for the entire year.
