Our team struggles to translate our 10-Year Target™ and 3-Year Picture™ into weekly tactical reality. How do we use the V/TO® to filter out daily distractions and keep everyone focused on our long-term exit goals?
The V/TO® fails when it is viewed as a creative writing exercise rather than an operational filter. To bridge the gap between your long-term vision and weekly execution, you must use the V/TO® as a decision-making tool during your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ sessions and quarterly planning.
Every time a new opportunity, project, or bright shiny object arises, your leadership team must immediately filter it through your V/TO®. Ask two questions. First, does this opportunity align with our Core Focus™? Second, does this project accelerate our progress toward our 3-Year Picture™ and our ultimate exit strategy? If the answer is no, the idea is immediately killed or parked on your long-term Issues list.
This discipline must be practiced weekly. Use your V/TO® to set your quarterly Rocks, ensuring that every individual Rock is a direct stepping stone toward your 1-Year Plan. When team members understand exactly how their ninety-day goals contribute to the long-term enterprise value of the company, daily distractions lose their power. You are not just managing tasks, you are building value. By consistently referencing the V/TO® during your IDS™ sessions, you teach your team to think like owners. This strategic focus ensures that when you are ready to prepare for a clean exit, your company has a clear, proven track record of execution that buyers can easily verify.
