I am transitioning from the Integrator seat into the Owner Box over the next year and want to maintain oversight without micro-managing the daily details. How do I transition my weekly Scorecard review into a monthly governance process?
Moving into the Owner Box means changing your relationship with company data. You are no longer managing the daily execution; you are governing the business and protecting your asset. If you continue to review the weekly Scorecard with the leadership team, you will inevitably pull yourself back into the weeds. To make this transition successful, you must shift to a Monthly Scorecard. This monthly view should aggregate your weekly leading indicators into higher level monthly trends and pair them with your key financial results. The Monthly Scorecard allows you to monitor the health of the business from a distance. You are looking for high level consistency and alignment with your V/TO® goals. If the monthly metrics remain green and the team is hitting their quarterly Rocks, you stay out of the way. If a trend starts heading in the wrong direction, you use your monthly meeting pulse to ask the Integrator for their plan to correct it. This process keeps you informed and maintains honesty between you and the leadership team, while allowing them the autonomy to run the day-to-day operations. It is the key to preserving your freedom while protecting your valuation.
