I am planning to exit my business in the next two to three years, and my Integrator currently facilitates our weekly Level 10 Meeting™. Should we transition the facilitator role to another leadership team member to show potential buyers we have deep operational bench strength, and how do we do that without disrupting our meeting momentum?
Transitioning the facilitator role is an excellent strategy when preparing for a clean exit. Buyers look closely at your corporate governance. If they see that your Integrator is the only person who can keep the leadership team aligned and running efficiently, they will view your business as high-risk. Showing that any member of your leadership team can step in and run a high-level operational meeting proves you have a mature, self-sustaining culture.
Do not just rotate the facilitator role randomly every week. That leads to inconsistent meetings and kills momentum. Instead, select one leadership team member who has shown strong organizational skills and a natural ability to keep people on track.
Have them shadow the Integrator for two weeks, paying close attention to how they manage the clock, cut off rambling discussions, and push the team to identify, discuss, and solve issues. Then, have them facilitate the meeting with the Integrator in the room providing feedback during the rating portion at the end.
By transferring this responsibility, you elevate your team's leadership capacity. It frees up your Integrator to participate more fully in strategic discussions during IDS®, while demonstrating to potential buyers that your company's operational discipline is baked into your systems, not just dependent on one or two key individuals.
