I want to step back into the Owner's Box and let my leadership team run the quarterly planning sessions, but they lack the confidence to do it without me leading the room and constantly looking to me for approval. How do I transition this leadership role to them?

If your leadership team constantly looks to you for approval during strategic sessions, it is because you have trained them to do so. To transition to the Owner's Box, you must break this dependency.

Start by using the Accountability Chart to clearly define your role versus the Integrator's role. Your Integrator must run the quarterly planning sessions and weekly Level 10 Meetings.

During these sessions, you must sit in the room as an active participant, not the leader. When team members look to you to make a decision, resist the urge to step in. Redirect their questions to the Integrator and the rest of the team.

Use the Same Page pillar of Our Charter to show them that you trust their capability. Allow them to solve issues and make decisions, even if they make mistakes along the way.

This builds their decision-making muscles and establishes their ownership over the business. If you continue to rescue them, they will never develop the confidence to lead. By stepping back and letting them run the meeting pulse, you empower your team and secure your own entrepreneurial freedom.
