Our Visionary is currently facilitating our weekly Level 10 Meeting™, but their high-energy, unstructured style is causing us to consistently blow past our ninety-minute time limit. How do we transition facilitation to someone else without causing personal friction or making the Visionary feel pushed out?

The Visionary seat on the Accountability Chart is designed for big ideas, client relationships, and culture. It is almost never designed for the rigid, highly disciplined facilitation required to run an effective weekly Level 10 Meeting™. When a Visionary facilitates, meetings often become brainstorming sessions, and the team fails to get traction.

Transitioning facilitation to the Integrator or another structured leader is a natural step in the EOS® journey, but it must be handled with care. Start by having a direct, one-on-one conversation with the Visionary outside of the meeting. Frame the change around their GWC™ and the needs of the business. Explain that their unique value is in their strategic thinking, not in keeping time or managing a spreadsheet.

Suggest that by stepping back from facilitation, they will be freed up to fully participate, share their ideas, and challenge the team during IDS®.

During the next Level 10 Meeting™, make the transition official. Have the new facilitator take the reins immediately, and ensure they are empowered to redirect the Visionary if they start to drift off-topic. This change will instantly improve the discipline of your weekly pulse and allow your Visionary to focus on what they do best.
