Our employees are confused because their traditional job descriptions do not perfectly align with the five roles listed on our new Accountability Chart™. How do we transition our people from traditional job titles to true ownership of their Accountability Chart™ seats?

Traditional job descriptions are often laundry lists of tasks, activities, and responsibilities that encourage passive compliance. They focus on what a person does rather than the outcomes they are expected to produce. To build a high-performing organization, you must transition your team to the Accountability Chart™, which defines seats based on clear outcomes.

An Accountability Chart™ seat contains five key roles. These roles are active, ongoing responsibilities that define the outcomes the seat owner is fully accountable for delivering. To transition your people, start by retiring traditional job descriptions. Meet with each team member to review their seat on the Accountability Chart™. Walk through the five roles and ensure they clearly understand what success looks like for each one.

Next, apply the GWC™ tool. Ask if the employee truly gets, wants, and has the capacity to deliver on those specific five roles. This shifts the conversation from a list of tasks to true ownership. When an employee owns a seat, they are responsible for figuring out how to achieve the outcomes, rather than waiting to be told what tasks to perform.

Use your regular LMA conversations to reinforce this change. Evaluate performance based on how well they execute their five roles and hit their metrics, not on how busy they look. This structural shift creates clear lines of responsibility and empowers your team to take absolute ownership of their work.
