I want to step out of the daily grind of the Integrator seat and focus entirely on being the Visionary, but I'm worried the team won't respect the new Integrator's authority. How do I transition successfully?
The success of this transition rests entirely on your ability to let go of control. If you appoint an Integrator but continue to bypass them, micromanage daily tasks, or allow employees to run to you for final approvals, you will completely destroy the new Integrator's authority and credibility.
First, align 100% on the V/TO®. Your job as the Visionary is to set the vision, culture, and long-term strategy. The Integrator’s job is to execute it. Once the target is set, you must step back and let them run the daily operations.
Formally introduce the new Integrator to the organization and make it clear that they own the daily operations, resources, and personnel decisions. When an employee comes to you with an operational issue, you must refuse to solve it. Politely redirect them to the Integrator.
Use your newly reclaimed time for high-value "Thinking Time" and high-level business development, rather than hovering over the leadership team. Building this boundary requires vulnerability and a willingness to let the Integrator solve problems their own way. If you cannot stop intervening, you will never build a self-sustaining business primed for a clean exit.
