I am the founder and Visionary, and I want to transition to the Owner's Box so I can focus on other ventures. How do we use the Accountability Chart and our weekly EOS® rhythms to manage this transition without losing operational control?
Transitioning to the Owner's Box requires a clear separation of ownership and management, and your Accountability Chart is the key tool to make this happen. First, you must clearly define the distinct roles of the Owner, the Visionary, and the Integrator. If you are currently wearing both the Visionary and Integrator hats, you must find a qualified Integrator to run the daily operations of the business.
Once the new Integrator is in place, you must respect the boundaries of the Accountability Chart. You cannot bypass the Integrator to give direction to department heads or make operational decisions on the fly. This behavior undermines the Integrator's authority and creates mass confusion.
Your weekly touchpoint shifts from running daily operations to a structured meeting with your Integrator. Review the high-level Scorecard and ensure the company is executing the V/TO®. Use this weekly meeting to stay informed without getting sucked back into daily management. By trusting the Integrator to run the business and focusing your energy on long-term strategy, you build a self-sustaining asset that holds value independent of your daily presence.
