I am the founder and the Visionary on our EOS Accountability Chart. How do I transition this highly intuitive, chaotic seat to someone else before I sell?
The Visionary seat on the EOS Accountability Chart is often the hardest one to transition because it is built on decades of intuition, industry relationships, and raw entrepreneurial drive. If you try to hand over this seat overnight, the company will likely lose its strategic direction and momentum. Transitioning the Visionary seat requires a deliberate, multi-year plan. First, you must separate your personal identity from the seat itself. Clearly define the roles and responsibilities of the Visionary on your Accountability Chart, which typically includes big relationships, culture, product R&D, and strategic vision. Next, begin delegating these specific functions to other leaders on your team. For example, transition your key strategic relationships to your sales leader or your Integrator. Use your V/TO® to clearly document the company's long-term vision so that it becomes an institutional asset rather than something that only exists in your mind. By systematically transferring these responsibilities, you prove to a buyer that the company's forward-looking engine can run successfully without your constant presence.
