If the business cannot run without you, it is not a sellable asset, it is just a high-paying job. To prepare for a clean exit, you must systematically remove yourself as the bottleneck and transition absolute authority to your leadership team.

Start by clearly defining the roles of the Visionary and the Integrator on your Accountability Chart. If you are still acting as the Integrator, running the day-to-day operations, you must hire a dedicated Integrator immediately. This is the single most important step to making your business self-sustaining.

Once you have an Integrator in place, you must stop attending their weekly Level 10 Meeting. This is hard for many founders, but your presence in that meeting prevents the team from taking full ownership. They will inevitably look to you for approval instead of solving issues themselves.

Next, use the V/TO to ensure the entire team is completely aligned on the long-term vision, the core focus, and the marketing strategy. When the team knows exactly where the company is going, they do not need to ask you for direction.

Finally, practice the art of letting go. When a leader comes to you with a problem, do not solve it for them. Ask them what they think the solution is, and if it aligns with the V/TO, tell them to execute it. Your job is to guide, not to decide.
