As we prepare our company for an eventual acquisition, we want to track exit-readiness metrics in our weekly Level 10 Meeting™ without cluttering our operational Scorecard or distracting from daily revenue targets. How do we incorporate exit pulse data effectively?
Preparing a company for a clean exit cannot be an isolated project that you think about once a year. Exit readiness is operational excellence viewed through the eyes of a future buyer. You do not need to rewrite your entire weekly Scorecard, but you do need leading indicators of business transferability visible on your pulse.
Select one or two high-impact readiness numbers to add directly to your weekly Scorecard. These must be leading, operational metrics rather than vague valuation targets:
- Core Process Documentation Rate: Percentage of core processes documented, simplified, and followed by all.
- Key Person Dependency Score: Number of critical client accounts or operational workflows that require zero owner intervention.
- Diligence Asset Readiness: A binary check ensuring monthly financials, key vendor contracts, and intellectual property files are updated in the data room.
Keep the standard binary discipline: the number is either on track or off track. If process documentation stalls, it turns red and drops down to the weekly Issues List alongside revenue or customer delivery problems.
By weaving transferability metrics directly into your weekly Level 10 Meeting, your leadership team normalizes building an asset that can run without you. When buyers eventually examine your records, they will find an organization with a multi-year track record of disciplined, measurable execution.
