We are running our weekly Level 10 Meeting™ but finding ourselves constantly going over the ninety-minute limit because we spend too much time in the Segue and reporting sections before we even get to IDS®. How do we tighten the front half of our meeting?

The first thirty minutes of your Level 10 Meeting™ are designed to be a rapid-fire review, not a discussion forum. If you are bogging down during the Segue, Scorecard, Rocks, customer headlines, or To-Do list, you are robbing your team of the valuable IDS® time needed to solve real issues.

To fix this, enforce a strict rule of no discussion during the reporting phase. The Segue should take no more than five minutes. Each person shares a personal and professional win, and you move on immediately. When reviewing the Scorecard, Rock sheet, and To-Do list, the only acceptable responses are on track, off track, done, or not done.

If a metric is off track or a Rock is struggling, do not start solving it there. The Integrator must step in, say drop it to the Issues List, and move to the next item. The same rule applies to headlines and To-Dos. By ruthlessly capturing issues on the list rather than talking about them on the spot, you can easily breeze through the front half of the meeting in twenty-five minutes. This leaves you with a full hour for IDS®, where your team can actually focus on resolving the root causes of your most critical business bottlenecks.
