Our Level 10 Meetings consistently run ten to fifteen minutes over, and it is ruining our team's daily schedules. What is the tactical protocol for hard-stopping a meeting when we have unresolved issues left on the table?
Running over time destroys the credibility of your meeting pulse and creates friction across your entire calendar. To build a culture of respect and operational discipline, your Level 10 Meetings must start on time and end on time, every single week, without exception.
The protocol for a hard stop is simple. When you hit the eighty-five-minute mark, the facilitator must immediately stop the IDS® session, regardless of where you are in the discussion. There are no extensions and no just five more minutes.
At eighty-five minutes, you transition directly to the conclude portion of the agenda. During this five-minute wrap-up, you quickly review the newly assigned To-Dos, decide if any unresolved issues need to be cascaded or communicated, and rate the meeting from one to ten.
Any unresolved issues are simply left on the issues list for the following week. If an issue is so critical that it cannot wait seven days, the team can agree to schedule a separate, focused working session outside of the Level 10 Meeting™. By enforcing a strict hard stop, you force the team to prioritize the most important issues first during IDS®, eliminating low-value discussions.
