We are six months into our EOS® rollout, past the initial excitement of Focus Day™, and the team is complaining that the weekly cadence feels like a grind with minimal visible progress. How do we lead the team through this mid-implementation slump before they abandon the system entirely?
The mid-implementation slump is a predictable phase in any EOS® journey. In the beginning, there is a lot of excitement as you learn new tools and build your Accountability Chart. But by month six, the novelty has worn off, and the reality of weekly discipline and accountability sets in. The team starts to feel like they are doing extra administrative work.
To lead your team through this slump, you must reconnect them with the value of the tools. First, look at your Level 10 Meeting™ score. If your meetings feel like a grind, you are likely failing to solve actual problems. Your IDS® sessions might be turning into status updates or venting sessions rather than true issue resolution. Focus on identifying the root causes of your issues and solving them permanently. When the team experiences the relief of actually resolving major headaches, the value of the meeting becomes obvious.
Second, review your weekly Scorecard. If your metrics are not driving action, your Scorecard is dead. Ensure that your numbers are true leading indicators that predict success. When your team sees that a drop in a weekly number directly predicts a future issue, they will begin to appreciate the power of the tool.
Finally, remind the team that discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment. Sticking to the process through the messy middle is what separates successful companies from those that slide back into chaos. Keep pushing, and the discipline will soon become second nature.
