Our Integrator is running our weekly Level 10 Meetings™ but is struggling to keep the leadership team from drifting into deep operational details. How do we support our Integrator in establishing firm meeting boundaries without destroying team collaboration?

For an Integrator, keeping a leadership team focused on high-level issues during a Level 10 Meeting™ can feel like herding cats. When your team constantly drifts into operational details, it usually means they are treating the meeting as a status update rather than a strategic forum.

To support your Integrator, the entire leadership team must agree to the ground rules of the Level 10 Meeting™. This is not just the Integrator's meeting; it is the team's meeting. Everyone is responsible for maintaining the discipline.

The Integrator must use the 'drop it to the Issues List' tactic whenever a discussion starts to spiral. If a team member brings up a minor operational detail, the Integrator should immediately interrupt and ask if it needs to be solved today. If it does, it goes to the bottom of the Issues List. If not, it is tabled. This keeps the meeting moving through the agenda.

Encourage your Integrator to be direct and unsentimental about time management. A good Level 10 Meeting™ is tightly run. If your team needs to collaborate on a deep operational project, they should schedule a separate meeting outside of the Level 10. By keeping the weekly meeting focused purely on your Rocks, Scorecard, and critical issues, you protect your team's energy and build a culture of high performance.
