During our Level 10 Meeting, some of our leaders silently nod along with decisions during the IDS portion, but then complain to their teams or fail to execute the decision after the meeting. How do we stop this silent disagreement and force real commitment?
This is a trust and commitment issue masquerading as agreement. When leaders nod during the Level 10 Meeting™ and then trash the decision to their teams, they are violating your company Charter. They are choosing comfortable silence over the healthy conflict required for a clean scale or eventual exit.
To break this passive-aggressive loop, the facilitator must call out the silence immediately. If a major decision is made during the Identify, Discuss, Solve process and a key leader has not spoken, stop the meeting. Ask them directly where they stand. Force them to voice their perspective. You must make it clear that silence in the room equals absolute agreement outside the room.
Utilize your Accountability Chart to reinforce this. Every seat must have GWC™; meaning the occupant must Get it, Want it, and have the Capacity to do it. If a leader lacks the capacity to engage in honest debate or refuses to align behind a team decision, they are a poor fit for their seat.
Before adjourning, run a check on alignment. Ask each person if they can support the decision with one hundred percent of their energy. If they say yes, they are bound by that promise. If they break it, it becomes a direct, one-on-one issue that the Integrator must address immediately. Do not tolerate passive resistance. It destroys execution.
