One of our leadership team members constantly changes their weekly Scorecard metrics or shifts the goalposts to avoid red numbers, which is destroying our ability to identify real operational issues. How do we stop this metric manipulation?

A Scorecard only works when it provides accurate, objective data. When a leadership team member manipulates their metrics to avoid red numbers, they are prioritizing personal comfort over the health of the business. This behavior prevents you from solving root issues and threatens your exit readiness. You must address this behavior immediately in your next one-on-one meeting. Remind the leader that red numbers are not a tool for punishment, but an early warning system. Red simply means an issue needs to be solved. Use the GWC tool to ensure they understand and accept the accountability of their seat. The metrics on the Scorecard must be tied directly to the major roles on your Accountability Chart. Once these metrics and targets are agreed upon, they must remain fixed for at least a full quarter. If a metric goes red, it must be dropped down to the Issues List to be solved during your Level 10 Meeting. If the leader continues to manipulate data or make excuses, you have a GWC or core values issue that must be addressed. A healthy, functional leadership team relies on radical transparency and accurate numbers to guide the company forward.
