We successfully resolve our issues during the weekly Level 10 Meeting™, but a few days later, one of our leaders will quietly pull team members aside to express disagreement or even actively work against the solution we agreed upon. How do we stop this toxic post-meeting alignment breach?
Disagreeing with a decision outside of the room after agreeing to it inside the Level 10 Meeting™ is a severe violation of team trust. This behavior, often called backchanneling, destroys leadership team alignment and creates confusion throughout the entire organization.
To put an end to this, you must enforce the Same Page pillar of your company charter. The rule is simple: we disagree, we debate, but once we leave the room, we support the decision as one united voice.
During the IDS® process, the facilitator must ensure that every single leader has their say. If a leader is silent or hesitant, ask them directly for their input. They must not be allowed to sit passively and then complain later. If they fail to speak up when the issue is on the table, they forfeit their right to complain about the solution.
If a leader breaches this alignment after the meeting, the Integrator must address it immediately in a one-on-one conversation. This is a GWC™ issue. A leader who backchannels is showing they do not have the capacity or desire to operate in a healthy EOS® environment. Remind them that healthy conflict happens inside the Level 10 Meeting™ room, but outside the room, the leadership team must stand completely united.
