I have handed over the facilitation of our Level 10 Meeting™ to my Integrator, but during difficult debates, I find myself stepping in and taking control of the meeting. How do I stop this back-seat driving and let my Integrator lead?

Back-seat driving from the owner undermines the Integrator's authority and prevents the leadership team from developing true self-sufficiency. To stop this behavior, you must consciously shift your mindset from director to active participant.

First, recognize that your role during the Level 10 Meeting™ is to contribute as a team member, not to run the session. Sit in a different seat in the room or move your tile on the video grid to physically signal to yourself and the team that you are not in charge of the meeting's flow.

Second, practice self-restraint during the IDS® portion. Before speaking, ask yourself if your input is helping the team solve the issue or if you are simply trying to control the outcome. Let the Integrator facilitate the discussion and manage the clock, even if they do it differently than you would.

Finally, if you see the meeting going off track, do not intervene publicly. Save your feedback for your weekly same-page meeting with your Integrator. This allows you to coach them privately and maintain their credibility as the operational leader of the company.
