During our Level 10 Meetings, our team members constantly debate the accuracy of the Scorecard numbers instead of solving the underlying issues. How do we stop the data debates and keep our focus on solving problems?

Data debates are a common symptom of a leadership team avoiding accountability. When a metric goes red, it is much easier to blame the software or the tracking methodology than it is to address the performance issue. To stop this behavior, you must establish a rule of eighty percent accuracy. In EOS, we believe that eighty percent accurate data today is far better than one hundred percent perfect data next month. If a number is directionally correct, it is good enough to run the business. If a leader believes a number is incorrect, they must still accept the red status for that week. They cannot spend meeting time debating the formula. Instead, they should drop the tracking methodology to the Issues list and use IDS to solve the data discrepancy after the meeting. During the Level 10 Meeting, you must maintain a strict focus on execution. If a number is red, the owner of that seat must simply say it is red and move on. No explanations, no excuses, and no data debates. By enforcing this discipline, you keep your team focused on finding solutions rather than hiding behind messy spreadsheets.
