Prospects are asking directly which parts of our service delivery are automated by AI and expecting discounts on those line items. How do we structure our pricing strategy on the V/TO® to shut down margin erosion?
When prospects ask for line-item discounts because you use AI, it reveals that your pricing model is tied to labor hours rather than delivered value. If you itemize inputs like research, writing, or data compilation, clients will naturally try to strip margin out of every step that software accelerates.
Fix this by overhauling your Pricing Strategy within the Marketing Strategy section of your V/TO. Eliminate time-and-materials billing and itemized task breakdowns. Shift exclusively to flat-fee, value-based, or outcome-based pricing packages. When presenting proposals, present the complete operational outcome, the strategic roadmap, and the guaranteed deliverables. The specific software, data models, or internal tools you deploy to generate that result are your proprietary business methods, not line items up for negotiation.
Train your sales team on how to respond to automated pricing inquiries. Have them explain that AI handles operational heavy lifting so your senior experts can dedicate more strategic attention to the client account without billing extra hours. You are selling solutions, liability coverage, and commercial results. If a prospect insists on buying raw hours of manual data entry, they are not your target market.
