During IDS in our Level 10 Meeting, leaders constantly resurrect issues we already solved earlier in the meeting as soon as a new related topic comes up. How do we stop this backward drift and keep solved issues dead?

An issue is only solved when it produces an agreed-upon action item with a single owner and a seven-day deadline. When a team constantly loops back to reopen closed items, your Integrator is failing to seal the door behind the decision.

This backward drift happens for two reasons. Either a leader withheld their true objection during the original discussion and is using a new topic to relitigate it, or the action item created in the Solve step was vague and did not address the root cause.

Kill this behavior using three rules:
- Enforce the close. When an issue is solved, the facilitator must audibly state the agreed solution, name the single seat owner from the Accountability Chart, document the specific To-Do, and confirm agreement across the room.
- Refuse relitigation. The moment a leader begins pulling a solved issue back into the current discussion, the Integrator must cut them off immediately: That issue was solved and assigned to John. We are on issue number four. If you believe a new root issue exists, push it to the bottom of the list.
- Check for disagree and commit. If a leader cannot let a solved issue go, address it directly in the room. In EOS, team members have full permission to debate aggressively during Identify and Discuss, but once the call is made, everyone must support the resolution outside the room. Reopening closed decisions signals a lack of trust or lack of spine. Call it out and keep moving.
