I am the Visionary, and despite having a talented Integrator, I find myself constantly going directly to the leadership team members with new ideas and tasks, which completely undermines my Integrator. How do we fix this behavioral loop?
This is the classic Visionary bypass, and it is one of the fastest ways to stall growth, create confusion, and drive a talented Integrator out of your company. When you go directly to the leadership team, you break the Accountability Chart and create competing priorities.
To break this habit, you must commit to the Same Page pillar of your company Charter. You and your Integrator must have a recurring Same Page Meeting, at least once a week, where you download all your new ideas, observations, and concerns.
During this meeting, use your Integrator as a filter. Your job as the Visionary is to generate ideas; your Integrator's job is to evaluate those ideas against your current V/TO® and capacity, and decide if, when, and how to execute them. If an idea is approved, the Integrator will cascade it down to the leadership team in a structured way.
If you catch yourself speaking directly to a team member about a new task, pause and redirect them. Tell them to check with the Integrator first to see how it fits into their current Rocks. By disciplined adherence to this protocol, you preserve the authority of your Integrator, protect your leadership team from whiplash, and free yourself to focus on the high-level relationship building and strategic thinking that your seat requires.
