Our weekly Level 10 Meeting Issues List is flooded with minor, low-level decisions because our team is afraid of making the wrong call on their own. How do we stop them from using IDS as a protective shield to avoid individual accountability?
When your Level 10 Meeting™ Issues List is packed with trivial, day-to-day operational decisions, it is a clear sign that your leadership team is avoiding individual accountability. Team members are using the safety of the group IDS® process to get consensus on decisions they should be making independently in their own seats. This clogs your agenda and prevents you from solving true leadership-level issues.
To clean this up, the facilitator and Integrator must audit the Issues List before the meeting starts. Look at each issue and ask, "Does this actually require the brainpower of the entire leadership team, or does it belong to a single seat on the Accountability Chart?"
If an issue can be solved by one person, push it back to them immediately. Literally remove it from the list and say, "This is within your seat authority. Make the call and report back next week if there is a systemic problem."
You must empower your leaders to make decisions and accept the consequences. Use your company core values and V/TO® to guide them, but do not let them use the weekly meeting as a protective shield. When people realize they cannot pass the buck to the group, they will step into their leadership authority, and your Issues List will shrink to only the most critical, cross-functional topics.
