During our five-minute segue, our Visionary frequently turns personal or professional good news into a rambling critique of company culture, burning precious minutes and throwing the team on defense before we even review the Scorecard. How do we stop the segue from turning into an executive soapbox?

The Segue exists for one psychological purpose: to clear the mental clutter, transition from working in the business to working on the business, and build personal connection. It is five minutes total for the entire room. It is not an executive platform, a state of the union address, or a grievance session.

When a Visionary uses the Segue to critique company culture, they sabotage the meeting before it begins. They force the leadership team into defensive posture, elevating cortisol and destroying the psychological safety required for honest IDS® later in the agenda.

The Integrator must address this directly with the Visionary outside the room during their weekly Same Page Meeting™. Set the expectation clearly: the Segue is one personal piece of good news and one business piece of good news per person, delivered in thirty to forty-five seconds. It is strictly positive or informative.

Inside the meeting room, the Integrator must hold the line actively. If the Visionary starts pontificating on an operational failure or cultural weakness during their turn, the Integrator must intervene immediately. The script is straightforward: That sounds like an important topic for our culture, let us drop that straight onto the Issues List so we can give it full focus during IDS.

Do not let the Visionary finish the monologue out of deference to their role. Interrupt politely, capture the headline on the Issues List, and turn to the next leader at the table. Once on the board, that cultural critique has to compete for priority against all other business issues, preventing spontaneous rants from derailing the meeting pulse.
