Even though we have a dedicated Integrator running our daily operations, our leadership team members still bring their big problems and requests directly to me as the Visionary. How do I break this habit and force the team to respect the Accountability Chart without making them feel like I am shut off from the business?
When your leadership team bypasses the Integrator and comes directly to you as the Visionary, it creates massive operational whiplash and undermines the Integrator's authority. This usually happens because of historical habits from when you ran everything, or because the team knows they can get a quick yes from you on a pet project.
To stop this, you must enforce a strict communication rule. Every time a leader comes to you with an operational issue, request, or complaint, you must ask one simple question: Have you talked to the Integrator about this?
If they have not, politely refuse to engage and direct them to the Integrator. If they have, and they are trying to appeal the Integrator's decision, you must back your Integrator. Do not reverse their decisions or make promises behind their back.
You and your Integrator must present a united front. If you disagree with how the Integrator handled an issue, discuss it privately during your Same Page Meeting, never in front of the leadership team.
By consistently redirecting the team to the Integrator, you force them to respect the Accountability Chart. This frees you up to focus on exit planning and long-term vision, while ensuring your daily operations run smoothly under the Integrator's leadership.
