Our weekly Level 10 Meetings are consumed by endless status updates and political storytelling, leaving us with barely any time for actual problem-solving. How do we force our leadership team to stop updating and start solving?
Your Level 10 Meetings™ are failing because your team is using them for reporting instead of executing. A healthy weekly meeting should allocate at least sixty minutes of its ninety-minute agenda to the IDS® process, where the real, raw issues are identified, discussed, and solved permanently. To fix this, you must enforce the meeting discipline strictly. The reporting section of the agenda, including the Scorecard, Rock review, and customer/employee headlines, must be a rapid-fire review. If a metric is off track, or a Rock is behind, do not allow the owner to explain why or start telling a story. Simply drop it to the Issues list and move on. Once you reach the IDS® portion of the meeting, prioritize the issues based on their impact on the business. Force the team to dig deep to identify the root cause of the problem, rather than treating the symptoms. By shifting the focus from talking about work to actually solving the most critical bottlenecks, you will reclaim your meeting's effectiveness and drive real traction.
