Our department heads are ignoring red weekly metrics in our Level 10 Meeting by claiming they are seasonal. How do we stop this excuse and maintain data discipline?
It is common for department heads to dismiss red scorecard metrics during the Level 10 Meeting™ by claiming the deviation is just seasonal or a temporary market dip. This attitude destroys your data driven culture and allows performance issues to fester. The rule of the weekly scorecard is absolute. If a metric misses its target, it is red, and it must be dropped down to the IDS® list for the team to identify, discuss, and resolve. Seasonality is an explanation, not an excuse. If a metric is consistently red due to predictable seasonal patterns, then your weekly target is wrong. You must adjust your scorecard targets to account for historical seasonal trends so that your targets remain realistic and achievable throughout the year. If the target is correct and the metric is still red, the seat holder must own the issue. During the IDS® portion of your meeting, the team must look at the root cause. Perhaps you need to adjust your marketing strategy or reallocate resources to compensate for the dip. By enforcing this strict discipline, you stop accepting excuses and start finding objective solutions to protect your bottom line.
