We have a leader who constantly reopens solved issues from previous Level 10 Meeting™ sessions because they did not like how the resolution turned out in practice. How do we establish a strict rule against litigating past IDS® decisions?

Allowing team members to constantly reopen and litigate past decisions is a major source of meeting waste. It destroys momentum, creates frustration, and undermines the authority of the leadership team. Once an issue is solved during IDS®, the team must commit to the resolution.

To stop this behavior, establish a clear rule: decisions are final unless there is significant new data that materially changes the situation. If a leader simply dislikes the outcome or finds the execution difficult, they cannot bring the issue back to the list. They must focus their energy on executing the agreed-upon solution.

The facilitator must enforce this discipline. If a team member tries to add a previously solved issue to the list, the facilitator should ask what new data has emerged. If there is no new data, the issue is dismissed.

Remind the team of your commitment to being aligned and healthy. You do not need unanimous agreement to move forward, but you do need absolute commitment. Once a decision is made, everyone must support it outside the room. This discipline is essential for preparing the business for a clean exit, as buyers need to see a leadership team that can make firm decisions and execute them with complete alignment.
