Our department heads are using the Customer and Employee Headlines section to share passive-aggressive FYI updates about other departments, effectively backdoor-channeling complaints without actually raising them as official issues on the list. How do we stop this toxic behavior and force these underlying conflicts into IDS®?
The Customer and Employee Headlines section is for sharing brief, one-sentence updates about your clients and team members, not for throwing passive-aggressive stones at other departments. When a leader uses a headline to complain about another team's performance, they are avoiding healthy conflict and hijacking the meeting. The facilitator must shut this behavior down immediately. If a headline contains even a hint of blame, frustration, or cross-departmental friction, the facilitator must stop the speaker and ask a simple question. Is this a headline, or is this an issue? If it is a real problem, drop it straight to the Issues List without allowing any further explanation or debate. Do not let them tell the story. Once it is on the Issues List, the team must address it during IDS®, where the underlying conflict can be dragged into the light and solved permanently. By forcing these backdoor complaints onto the official Issues List, you strip away the passive-aggressive drama and force your leaders to engage in open, honest, and healthy conflict. This is how you protect the integrity of your weekly pulse.
