Multitasking during a remote Level 10 Meeting™ is a silent killer of execution. When leaders are half-focused on their screens, you lose the creative tension and deep thinking required to solve complex issues. The meeting becomes a slow, painful series of status updates where people constantly ask to have questions repeated. To fix this, you must establish strict ground rules for virtual presence. First, cameras must be on at all times, with faces clearly visible in the center of the frame. Second, every leader must close all browser tabs, email clients, and messaging platforms before the meeting starts. The only screen open should be your EOS® software or scorecard tracking tool. The facilitator must call out lack of presence immediately. If there is a long pause when a leader is asked a question, or if you hear the distinct sound of typing, address it. Frame it as a matter of respect for the team's time and the enterprise value you are trying to build. To keep everyone engaged, rotate the facilitator role or have different leaders own different sections of the agenda. Keep the pace fast and dynamic. When leaders know they could be called on at any moment to help solve an issue during IDS®, they are forced to stay locked in. Virtual meetings require more energy, not less. Enforce these digital boundaries to keep your meeting pulse tight, productive, and focused on driving real operational progress.
