We have a department head who frequently updates their Level 10 Meeting Scorecard numbers during the actual meeting rather than before it, claiming they want the data to be as real-time as possible. How do we handle this mid-meeting data entry?

Updating your weekly Scorecard during the actual Level 10 Meeting is a major breach of operational discipline. It creates dead air, distracts the team, and signals a lack of preparation. The excuse of wanting real-time data is usually a smoke screen for poor time management or a failure to build a reliable tracking system.

To resolve this, establish a hard deadline for updating the Scorecard. All numbers must be entered at least one hour, or preferably one day, before the meeting starts. This allows every team member to review the data beforehand, so they arrive prepared to identify off-track metrics immediately.

If a leader shows up with empty numbers or starts typing them in during the segue, the facilitator must stop them. An incomplete scorecard metric is automatically considered off-track. Do not let them input the data on the fly. Instead, drop that metric to the Issues List for IDS.

During IDS, discuss why the numbers were not ready. Is the system for gathering data too manual, or does the leader lack the GWC to manage their metrics? Solving the tracking system is the real priority. When you enforce the rule that data must be entered before the meeting, you protect the flow of your weekly pulse and drive true accountability.
