Our team-wide To-Do completion rate has hovered around seventy-five percent for three months, but because different people miss their targets each week, we cannot point to one single offender. How do we break this collective mediocrity and get back to our ninety percent standard?
When your entire team is hovering at seventy-five percent, you have a systemic culture problem, not an individual performance issue. The team has silently agreed that missing To-Dos is acceptable. Since everyone takes turns failing, nobody feels the heat. This collective mediocrity will stall your business.
To fix this, the Integrator must stop glossing over the To-Do review. During the Level 10 Meeting™, when you review the list, every single incomplete item must be addressed. Do not let people explain why it is not done. Simply ask: Is it done or not done? If it is not done, it stays on the list for one more week.
If the overall team average is below ninety percent for more than two consecutive weeks, that metric itself must be dropped to the Issues List. Treat the entire team-wide failure as a single major issue during the IDS® portion.
Ask the team why we are failing to hit our standard. Are we taking on too many tasks? Are we writing weekly To-Dos that are actually quarterly Rocks in disguise? Or are we simply lacking the discipline to prioritize our weekly commitments?
Force the team to solve this problem collectively. You might agree to a rule where no one can have more than two weekly To-Dos at a time. Or you might agree that if the team average is below ninety percent, the meeting is automatically rated a five. When the entire team feels the pain of a low rating and a long discussion about their collective failure, they will start holding each other accountable and protect their commitments.
