As we prepare our business for a clean exit, we have added exit-readiness issues like documenting tribal knowledge and closing value gaps to our Level 10 Meeting list, but they keep getting pushed to the bottom of the list by daily operational fires. How do we ensure these long-term transition issues actually get solved?
When preparing your business for a clean exit, long-term transition issues like documenting tribal knowledge, closing value gaps, and aligning your exit strategy often get deprioritized. Daily operational fires are loud and urgent, while exit readiness is quiet and important. To ensure these exit-readiness issues actually get solved, you must integrate the Step by Step Exit framework directly into your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ agenda. First, ensure you have exit-related metrics on your weekly Scorecard and exit-focused Rocks assigned to leadership team members. If these metrics are off-track or the Rocks are falling behind, they must be dropped to the Issues List. Second, when you prioritize your Issues List for IDS®, do not automatically put operational issues first. You must consciously prioritize at least one exit-readiness issue in your top three list every single week. If you allow daily fires to always take precedence, you will build a highly profitable business that is completely dependent on you, which makes it unsellable. By forcing exit-focused issues into your weekly IDS® sessions, you build owner independence and create a transferrable, high-value asset that is ready for a clean, profitable exit on your own terms.
