We have thirty different numbers we want to track on our leadership Scorecard because we are afraid of missing a critical metric. How do we boil this down to the five to fifteen truly vital numbers that actually tell us the health of our business?
If your weekly Scorecard has thirty columns, you do not have a Scorecard; you have an administrative nightmare. A bloated Scorecard dilutes focus and makes it impossible to spot the numbers that actually drive the business.
To fix this, you must boil your Scorecard down to five to fifteen high-impact activity-based metrics. Every number on your leadership Scorecard must be a leading indicator, not a lagging financial result.
Look at your Core Focus™ and your quarterly Rocks. Ask yourself: What are the three to five critical activities that must happen every week to ensure we hit our quarterly goals? For sales, this might be outbound calls or discovery meetings, not closed revenue. For operations, it might be project milestones met, not total projects completed.
Assign a single owner to every metric on the Scorecard. That person is accountable for updating their number every week and explaining why if it falls below the target.
By simplifying your Scorecard, you can look at the data in less than five minutes during your Level 10 Meeting™ and instantly know if the business is on track. If a number is off, drop it to the Issues List to run IDS®. Keep it clean, simple, and action-oriented.
