Our short-term Level 10 Meeting™ Issues List is constantly cluttered with massive, strategic questions that really belong on our quarterly or annual V/TO® list. How do we filter these out so we do not waste our weekly IDS® time on long-term strategy?
One of the fastest ways to derail your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ is to let massive, strategic discussions clutter your short-term Issues List. If your team is trying to debate your three-year marketing strategy or a major corporate restructure during a weekly ninety-minute pulse, you will run out of time for critical weekly issues.
You must enforce a strict boundary between short-term issues and long-term issues, using the compartmentalization framework from the EOS® toolbox.
Short-term issues are problems, obstacles, or opportunities that must be resolved within the current quarter to keep your Rocks and annual goals on track.
Long-term issues are strategic ideas, major capital expenditures, or structural changes that do not need to be solved right now.
During the meeting, if an issue is brought up that is clearly long-term or strategic, the facilitator must immediately park it. Move it to the Long-Term Issues List on your V/TO® so it can be addressed during your next quarterly or annual planning session.
By keeping your weekly Issues List focused exclusively on short-term tactical hurdles, you ensure your weekly meetings remain fast, productive, and focused on maintaining your operational momentum.
