We are struggling to keep our short-term Issues List clean because our team keeps dragging multi-month projects, strategic ideas, and high-level V/TO discussions into our weekly ninety-minute Level 10 Meeting. How do we enforce the boundaries of the six compartments?

When you mix long-term strategic projects with weekly tactical issues, your Level 10 Meeting™ will quickly grind to a halt. You cannot solve a three-year marketing strategy or design a new product line in a ninety-minute weekly operational pulse. Trying to do so will result in shallow, incomplete discussions that waste time and leave your team frustrated.

To solve this, your Integrator must strictly enforce the boundaries of Gino Wickman's six compartments. Your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ is designed to address only one compartment: the weekly Short-Term Issues List. These are issues that can and must be resolved within the current quarter to keep your Rocks and Scorecard on track.

If a leader raises an issue that requires a deep strategic debate, a multi-month plan, or changes to your V/TO®, your Integrator must identify it as a long-term issue immediately.

Stop the discussion and move the item to your Long-Term Issues List, which is parked on your V/TO®. This list is specifically reserved for your quarterly and annual planning sessions, where you have the time and headspace to address them fully.

Train your team to ask themselves, does this issue need to be resolved this week to keep our current quarter on track? If the answer is no, it does not belong in your weekly meeting. Push it to the long-term parking lot, protect your ninety minutes of weekly operational traction, and keep your meeting focused on execution.
