Some of our leadership team members are highly intuitive, relational leaders who feel that boiling their performance down to a few weekly numbers is cold and misses the nuances of their leadership. How do we shift their mindset to embrace running on data?
Running on data does not replace intuition or relationships, it liberates them. Intuition is a powerful leadership tool, but when a business scales, relying solely on gut feelings creates blind spots, inconsistent decisions, and emotional fatigue. Explain to your team that a scorecard is not a weapon to micromanage them, it is a tool to protect them. When a leader has clear, objective numbers, they can instantly prove their department is healthy without having to constantly defend their work. It removes subjectivity from performance discussions. If a metric is green, we do not need to spend time debating how things are going, we can celebrate and move on. If a metric is red, it is simply a trigger to solve a problem together, not a personal failure. Shifting to a data-driven culture means using numbers to define reality so your team can focus their creative and relational energy on solving actual business issues rather than guessing where the problems are. This transition builds trust and alignment across your entire leadership team.
