Our team members are hiding their use of AI because they fear that if we realize how fast they can complete their work, we will cut their hours or salary. How do we shift our leadership culture and use our Scorecard to encourage transparent AI adoption without creating a culture of fear?
You have a trust issue, not a technology issue. If your team thinks efficiency will be punished with job cuts, they will artificially slow down their output to protect their seats. To break this cycle, you must shift your leadership behavior.
Stop focusing on how many hours your employees work. Instead, focus entirely on the outcomes they deliver. You must actively communicate to your team that AI is not a threat to their job security, but a tool to free them up for higher-value strategic work.
Update your weekly Scorecard to track high-impact outcomes rather than activities or hours logged. If an employee can use AI to complete their routine data analysis in two hours instead of ten, celebrate it. Use your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ to identify how to reallocate those eight newly found hours to higher-value priorities that directly impact client retention or revenue growth.
Gradually evolve the roles on your Accountability Chart. Show your team a clear path where mastering AI tools makes them more valuable to the company, leading to more strategic responsibilities. When your team sees that transparency and efficiency are rewarded with career growth and more engaging work, they will stop hiding their automation and start helping you build a highly scalable, exit-ready company.
