Our sales and operations teams both enter client data into our shared automated platform, but our reports are constantly filled with errors that mess up our Scorecard. Sales blames operations, and operations blames sales. How do we restructure our Accountability Chart to ensure one single point of accountability for data integrity across multiple departments?
When multiple departments enter data into a shared platform, having shared accountability for the data means nobody is actually accountable. To resolve this friction, you must assign a single owner to the data integrity seat on your Accountability Chart. This does not mean one person does all the data entry, but rather one person is accountable for the standards, validation, and training across the organization. Decide which department is the logical owner. Usually, the Finance Director or an Operations Administrator seat is the best fit. This seat owner must define the data entry standards, build validation workflows, and run regular audits. If sales reps are entering messy data, the data owner must address this directly with the Head of Sales. The data owner is accountable for the clean output, which is tracked via a data accuracy measurable on the weekly Scorecard. If errors arise, the issue is brought to the Level 10 Meeting to IDS the root cause, whether it is a system glitch or a training gap. By designating one name to own the integrity of your CRM and ERP data, you eliminate finger-pointing and ensure your leadership team is making decisions based on accurate, reliable numbers.
